Last Friday, Halo 5's Big Team Battle playlist got a refresh. All 12 of the maps already in the playlist saw updates of varying sizes and four new Forge maps were added. Three of these maps were submissions to the recent Meet Your Maker contest hosted here with help from our friends at BigTeamBattle.net, 343industries.org, and several YouTube outlets.

This update was a huge undertaking for 343's multiplayer team as well as the group of community members who helped make it a reality and was arguably the largest jump forward within a single matchmaking playlist since Halo 5's launch last fall.

Hopefully the playlist will be to your liking with the wide variety of maps on offer, from big to small; symmetrical to asymmetrical; modern to classic. In addition to great maps, new and old, you'll also find a few new toys throughout the playlist including the Tactical Magnum, Wicked Grasp, and Wasp.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on the refresh below. Also, don't forget to get squads together to throw down in the playlist using our lobby system and to add your streams on our streams portal!

In addition to hearing your thoughts on the maps, we'd also love to know what you think about the playlist's starting weapon. We've included a poll in this post and also have one running on Twitter, so be sure to let your voice be heard on the matter.

See you on the (big team) battlefield!

Just to add to this point, allow me to quickly run you through how you can add your Twitch livestream to HaloCustoms.

On the Streams section of the site select the "Add Your Stream" button which I'll conveniently show you where to find below;

Once you've selected this option simply paste you twitch channel URL into the "Twitch Channel URL" box and then click on the "Add Your Stream" button. For those of you that are super lazy you can click on the image below to go straight the Add Your Stream page.

Once you've done this you're nearly all set. Once a member of staff approves your channel submission, your Live Stream will be guaranteed to show up on our streaming portal whenever you go live and when your Online or Offline a link to your channel will always be present on the Approved Channels page.

The cool thing about becoming an Approved Channel on HaloCustoms is that if you're streaming a non-Halo title this will also show up on the "Other" tab whenever you're streaming. Pretty nifty, huh? I've included an example image above to demonstrate this.

So what are you waiting for? Why not add your twitch channel and expand our HaloCustoms streaming catalogue today? :)

Glad to see this isn't a flame pit like it is on other sites.

So Unearthed made it in! Nice! It still hurts that there's BR starts especially on these maps made for the default load out. I have not gone into BTB matchmaking yet but I wanted to say congrats on the refresh and looking forward to the next part!

You're definitely not the only one. But, i am curious, what has informed that opinion? Why do you prefer BR starts?
Simple reason really. It's just part of what I think of when I think of BTB.
Warthogs, BRs and Valhalla. To Me, you can't get much more iconic than that.
I'm by no means against AR starts, I just think it should be another game type within the BTB playlist, instead of being the gametype. Kinda like Swatnums in the Swat playlist.

Warthogs, BR's, and Valhalla is pretty classic, iconic BTB. But BR's weren't hitscan back then, and it wasn't so easy to kill a gunner out of the turret of a 'hog with a spawn weapon, let alone people across the map. Halo 5 is a different game, and in this case the old balance just doesn't work as well anymore.

...Does it have to?
...I mean, I do like Halo to be balanced. The fun of having a BR gets kind of outweighed by the fact that you can't peek out anywhere without getting pinged from across the map, Warthogs become far less effective, and other stuff like that.

Fair enough. I've allways enjoyed madness on an even playing field, so I guess it just never bothered Me.

What if I told you that Magnum starts in H5 play much more similarly to BR starts from past games than H5 BR starts do?

The H5 Magnum has the same red reticule range that the BR had in Halo 3; the H5 BR has substantially longerr RRR than its predecessors. The H5 BR is, as Shoe mentioned, also a hitscan weapon. These two factors combined make the H5 BR vastly more effective at hitting targets at range than any previous iteration. The range potential of the weapon actually bogs things down and creates stalemates. This can all be easily observed by comparing maps like Deadlock and Viking to their inspirations in Halo 3. Magnum starts on both of these maps make them play much more akin to their forebears. Even on H5 maps with more limited lines of sight, BR starts greatly hinder players' ability to move because of theeir faster and more easily achieved time-to-kill.

Additionally, the H5 BR outranges the Warthog turret. This, combined with the ease with which BRs can teamshoot vehicles makes it unjustifiable to give up two players with rifles to operate a 'hog.

So, if you want to achieve your classic vision of Warthogs, BRs, and Valhalla, you're actually better off doing so without the H5 Battle Rifle in the first place; the Magnum is a much closer analogue to the BR of the past.

I think they should use magnum starts on classic halo 3 maps in mm and br on the other maps.Ofcourse now we have Vahalla and Sandtrap with super heavy vehicles so it would be too hard to counter all that with magnum starts.. Man this kinda stuff shouldn't be an issue in Halo 5.. I really hope 343 can come up with something better in Halo 6 and get rid of hitscan.. BTW the new btb maps are nice but a few things on some of them are ridiculous like the added sniper towers in Basin which was a map where the sniper was already OP.. Also on Estuary the banshee gets abused just about every game and there is really no real way to counter it except with teamshooting which hardly any team seems to do effectively.. Also Deadlock I have abused the other team to no end with the wasp,40+ kills which was fun for me on the giving end but probably not a joyous time for the other team. Id say Boulevard, Scavenger, Fracture and that new Halo CE style map play the best and are the standouts and most balanced maps of the bunch. All in all BTB is fun but theres still a few maps that play terribly and can be exploited to an extent.
