You can make them two ways. The first way is to copy the URL you want to link, highlight the words you want to turn into a link, click the little icon in the post editor toolbar that looks like a chain, and then paste that URL into the box that appears. You can also type it out by hand, which is sometimes easier (and works in the shoutbox).
It'll look like this, but with square brackets (These things [ ]) instead of parenthesis:
(url=www.thisismyurl.com)these are the words I want to be my link(/url)
